Case Study

Do you have coaches that are ready to quit or feel disrespected? Do you have parents and players that prefer one coach over another? Are you worried about retention and recruitment? Do you want to promote a coach but have a concern about interrelationships?  This GELRAD’s Sports Analytics case study focuses on how a soccer coach became more aware of their impact on others.

The board of directors supported this coach for a promotion.  The blind spots were uncovered in interviews.  The intent of the coach was not being felt by fellow coaches, parents and athletes universally. While some feedback was positive, others were being increasingly alienated. This coach recognized the value of substituting a few critical behaviors in interacting with others.  He embraced the opportunity to identify and resolve his blind spots.

The result – his coaching and leadership strengths in developing game plays and training development and investing in his peers and players were better received. The positive impact is also a result of the coaches that felt disrespected having a willingness to let go of the past, release their emotions and providing the leader a new opportunity to demonstrate respect, caring, collaboration and compromise. Given the 21 indispensable qualities of a leader, most every leader has a weak spot.
